Voter apathy undermines democracy

Our society has become so complacent that many Canadians don't even bother to vote.

     Most people are willing to complain when a politician makes a decision they don't like, but when it comes to putting their money where their mouths are and vote, they don't. In Belleville's last municipal elections, only about 40 per cent of eligible voters made it to the polls said Mayor Mary-Anne Sills, which is on par with the provincial average of 40.18 per cent.
