Highway accident proves fatal for pedestrian
by Monique Glenn

A pedestrian was killed last night near the overpass of Highway 37 on the Highway 401 near Belleville after being struck by a transport truck.

The man was crossing the highway at 8:20 p.m., and was struck by a westbound tractor trailer unit. The Nappanee OPP are asking the public for aid in the investigation as the man has not yet been identified. Several motorists may have witnessed the accident.

There is a post-mortem scheduled at the Belleville General Hospital Friday morning where investigators are waiting for more information on the body. The highway was closed for 10 hours after the accident for investigators.

“They are going to have difficulty identifying the body,” said Sergeant Rob Ross,

of the Nappanee OPP.

No charges have been laid against the driver of the tractor trailer.
