College anniversary helps raise money for student funding
by Scott Haines

The Loyalist College Foundation is the primary benefactor of the 40th anniversary celebration being held at the college.

The net proceeds of the gourmet marché event on March 27 will be going towards the Loyalist College Foundation, which sponsors awards for students.

Since the foundation was started in 1995 it has given a total of 1,955 awards with a total value of $1,930,590. This school year it has given out 259 for a total value of $150,388.

The dinner has already sold approximately 135 tickets, and that number is expected to rise as the date approaches, says Dianne Spencer, executive director of college advancement, who is organizing the festivities. The event, which was originally scheduled to be in Club 213, was moved to the Cafeteria because it can accommodate more people than the school's restaurant, and give more space for the other events, says Spencer.

"If we had stayed in club 213, then we would have been limited in terms of numbers. We moved it to the cafeteria so that we could increase those numbers significantly," says Spencer.

Loyalist College also uses other events such as their annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Loyalist College Foundation.

At 5:30 p.m., Manly MacDonald paintings as well as R. Gary Miller's The Loyalist Collection, which was commissioned on the 20th anniversary, will be on display for guests in The Parrot Centre. The 40th anniversary celebration for Loyalist College being held March 27. This will be the first of the festivities. Guests will be given a tour of the colleges new career centre.

After the tour at and gallery showing of art, the guests will be invited into the cafeteria to enjoy a dinner prepared by the culinary students of Club 213 and to be served by the students of the hospitality program in a marché style dining experience. Afterwards there will be an auction, where guests can bid on items such as paintings, pottery and Ottawa Senators tickets.

Tickets cost $75 and are available by calling The Loyalist College Foundation Office at (613) 969-1913 ext. 2326 or by e-mail at fnobes@loyalistc.on.ca.
