Volunteer and part-time firefighters are finally being treated equal by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act of Ontario.

This means the brave men and women who suffer fire-related illnesses within 24 hours of fighting a fire now qualify for the benefits full-time workers already have.

The new regulation covers eight types of cancer, along with heart injuries that were consumed on the job.
