Belleville Family Business Forced to Close

Its a sad day for a family run business in Belleville that has announced it will be shutting down next year.

Belleville's Licence Bureau is closing its doors because the Provincial Government is ending contracts with its private drivers licence bureaus.

Owner Doug Olsen says both companies can co-exist.

The licence Bureau is owned and run by the Olsen family and has been in business for 52 impressive years.

However, it will be closed at the end of November of 2010, leaving eight workers without job.

Police say the culprits gained entry through the main floor window and made off with a safe containing 5-thousand dollars.

The safe was located down the road.

Anyone with information into this matter should contact Northumberland OPP or Crimestoppers.

Sinclair's Application DENIED-quick write through 3

The owner of the former Bakelite site was surprised to see his application for a scrap yard in Belleville be denied.

Many residents were pleased with the outcome as the planning committee shot down Jim Sinclair's re-zoning application at last night's meeting.

Residents spoke in force about the unclean operation Sinclair was running, stating it was more than just a metal site, he was also carrying televisions and refrigerators that could affect water quality at the Bay of Quinte.

Sinclair claims councillor Jack Miller shouldn't be able to move this motion...

Councillor Miller said after the meeting, his wife was employed at Bay View Mall, which has nothing to do with Crawford Metals.

Sinclair was found guilty earlier this year of nearly 2 dozen charges resulting in pollutants flowing through the Bay of Quinte and faces upwards of 500-thousand dollars in fines.
