Sinclair's Application DENIED

The owner of the former Bakelite site was surprised to see his application for a scrap yard in Belleville be denied.

Many residents were happy of the outcome as Jim Sinclair was the only person in favour of the application at last night's planning advisory meeting.

Residents spoke in force about the unclean operation Sinclair was running, stating it was more than just a metal site; he was also carrying televisions and refrigerators that could affect water quality at the Bay of Quinte.

When asked by Mayor Ellis if he would not re-open, Sinclair said he plans on going back into business despite the denied application.

Sinclair now plans on appealing to the Ontario Municipal Board and is facing a half million dollar fine and was found guilty for environmental crimes for digging trenches and letting PCB's run through the Bay of Quinte.

CHARGED WITH OVER 80 MGS

Two Belleville residents got into trouble in Prince Edward County for swapping seats when being pulled over.

A man was observed driving the vehicle and prior to being stopped by Prince Edward OPP, the vehicle came to a brief stop before continuing on its route.

Once stopped it, an officer noticed the passenger, had moved into the driver's seat.

Linda Mitobe failed a screening test and was issued a 3 day driving suspension.

Meanwhile, the original driver, 24 year old Adam Davis, was charged with operating a vehicle with over 80 mgs and driving with a suspended licence.

Davis will appear in Picton Court.

Rescue made by Trent Hills Fire Services

It was a very dangerous situation for sight see-ers who quickly had to become swimmers in the Trent Servern Waterway in Campbellford.

One person was left stranded in the middle of the river when the Trent Severn when a nearby dam opened up and flooded the area at 2:15 yesterday afternoon.

Northumberland OPP and Trent Hills fire crews were called in to save the day by serveral visitors who were watching on the rocks below the dam and were trapped in the water.

Most of the people were able to make it to shore.

The man was rescued successfully by the fire crews.

SEA DOO'S RECOVERED

Prince Edward OPP is looking for suspects involved in the theft of two sea doo's and a trailer from a county resident.

Police received the report at 4 yesterday morning that 3 items were stolen from the house on County Road 3 in Prince Edward County.

The suspects left the vehicle they were operating and abandoned the two stolen sea doo's when they accidentally ran into a police roadblock, which was set up for an entirely different incident at County Road 14.

The incident remains under investigation.
