Stolen vehicle/pursuit

City police are looking for a man in Rossmore after getting away from a pursuit with one officer.

Belleville police responded to a report of a stolen car at 2 this morning in the city's west end.

The officer crossed paths with the stolen vehicle which failed to stop on Yeomans St.

The vehicle hit the curb at the south end of Highland Av, and drove down the grassy embankment onto Dundas St. West.

Officers followed the marks on the roadway from the damaged car and led them over the Bay Bridge into Rossmore.

The car was found abandoned and the investigation is continuing with OPP and Canine Units out.

Belleville Fire

Investigations are ongoing into a fire at a business and residential building on Cannifton Road in Belleville this morning.

Fire crews were on scene at 12:45 this morning and took nearly 4 hours to put out the blaze.

Nobody was hurt and there is no word yet on the extent of the damage or what caused it.

Afghan-Cda-Soldiers

The second soldier killed in a roadside bomb in Afghanistan is being remembered as a lead who always kept up morale.

21 year old Sapper Mattieu Allard and his friend, 23 year old Corporal Christian Bobbitt, were killed in the blast on Saturday.

Brigadier-General Jonathan Vance paid his respects to the men in Kandahar.

The bodies will arrive at CFB Trenton at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

Broken window leads to two arrests

Multiple broken windows have led police to the arrest of two Belleville men.

Officers responded to a broken window report on Alexander St. at 10:30 Monday night and found the suspects on Great Saint James Street and arrested them.

After further investigation, the suspects were also responsible for another broken window at a house in the same area.

The 21 year old and 19 year old face two counts of mischief to property and will appear in court in September.

Man had Own Knife Used on Himself

Officers who responded to a stabbing in the east end of Belleville over the weekend were fooled.

Police were called at 10:50 on Saturday night about a man who was stabbed at a housing complex.

Officers say the man was not stabbed, but was injured when others tried to disarm him of his own knife.

The man showed up with a knife to fight someone, and had the knife used against himself.

The injured man was charged with weapon dangerous.

Prince Edward Firefighters Getting the Provincial Standard

Firefighters in Prince Edward County will see a spike in wages with a new four-year contract.

County Council approved the collective agreement with the professional firefighters association, which brings their earnings up to provincial standards.

First class firefighters’ salary will raise from 60 thousand in January of 09 to around 73 thousand in October of 2012.

The agreed deal also includes other improvements to the firefighters working conditions.
