Bay Bridge Closure- Update

The Norris Whitney Bridge is now up and running again.

The bridge was closed earlier this morning for several hours because a Belleville woman was attempting to jump.

Belleville Police say they received a call about someone atop the railing and located the 29 year old distraught woman.

A crisis negotiator was brought in to help her down safely.

Fire crews, OPP Marine Units and Canadian Coast Guard were all on site.

The woman was taken to BGH for assessment.

Fatal Crash in Trent Hills

A car crash near Warkworth has claimed the life of a Kingston woman.

Northumberland OPP say the head on collision involving 2 cars happened on County Road 25 in Trent Hills yesterday afternoon.

81 year old Dorothy Cunningham was flown to Kingston General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the other driver, 24 year old Jennifer Neggars of Quinte West was transported to Campbellford Memorial Hospital and then later airlifted to KGH with non-life threatening injuries.

The Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit, and Northumberland OPP are continuing their investigation.

Federal and Provincial Deliver 110 Million for Regional Broadband

Rural Ontario is about to receive more affordable, accessible and efficient high-speed internet services.

Federal and Provincial Governments have announced a partnership to provide 110 million dollars towards broadband infrastructure in Hastings, Prince Edward, Northumberland, and other counties.

MPP Lou Rinaldi says this project will bring Eastern Ontario up to par with technology

Construction will begin in 2010 and is should see upwards of 95 per cent of Eastern Ontario residents with high speed by 2013.

The total project cost is 170 million dollars.

The two governments will cover 55 million each and the rest will be picked up by Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus Inc.

Student workers protest at Algonquin Provincial Park

Those going to Algonquin Provincial Park will run into some angry student workers protesting the provincial government.

The students will be stopping vehicles at the east and west entrances to the park, notifying visitors vacation and holiday pay is being denied to 34 hundred students working for the province this summer.

Students have received the vacation and holiday pay before, but this year the government said the Crown is exempt from the pay provisions of the Employment Standards Act.

Prince Edward Firefighters Getting the Provincial Standard

Firefighters in Prince Edward County will see a spike in wages with a new four-year contract.

County Council approved the collective agreement with the professional firefighters association, which brings their earnings up to provincial standards.

First class firefighter’s salary will raise from 60 thousand in January of 09 to around 73 thousand in October of 2012.

The agreed deal also includes other improvements to the firefighters working conditions.

Motions for Housing Approved By Hastings County Council

Hastings County is about to see much more improvements to housing units and more affordable housing.

Hastings County Council has approved two, motions which will allow the county to use 5 million dollars in provincial funding to help out housing units owned or managed by Hastings-Quinte Social Services.

Council also approved an application for 20 new affordable housing units in each Belleville and Trenton.

Warkworth to Remain Locked Down Through the Weekend

Warkworth Institution will remain in lockdown over the weekend, which has been the case since July 21st, when 200 prisoners refused to go back to their cells.

One prisoner died and many other suffered from drug overdoses.

Also, another prison in Quinte is in lockdown this weekend after a weapon was found in one of the ranges in the assessment unit of Millhaven Institution on Monday.
