(Photo By Melissa Tait)The body of Jessica Lloyd, 27, of Belleville, missing since Jan. 28, was found off Carry Road this morning in Tweed. Charged with first-degree murder is Colonel Russ Williams, 46, commanding officer of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton. He has also been charged with the November murder of Marie Comeau, of Brighton-- a 38-year-old corporal with CFB Trenton-- along with two counts of forcible confinement and two counts of break and enter and sexual assault.
On Monday, Williams’ cottage in Tweed was cordoned off with police tape as a crime scene, said police. Two police officers were standing guard at the residence. Access to the area where the body was found was also restricted Monday.
Police said similar unsolved cases in other jurisdictions where Williams has served are being re-examined in light of this arrest.
Williams holds a degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto. In 1987, Williams enlisted in the Canadian armed forces and three years later he obtained his wings. In 1992 he was posted to 412 (Transport) Squadron in Ottawa where he piloted the Challenger VIP jets used to transport Prime Ministers and royalty. In 2004 he earned his Master of Defence Studies from the Royal Military College, and around the same time was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.
After another five years of service, Williams was sent to the Canadian Forces Language School in Gatineau. During this time he was promoted to his current rank, Colonel.
The 8 Wing team recently took part in the carrying of the Olympic torch in Quinte. The announcement of the runner, Master Warrant Officer James Whalen, was made by Williams.

Mould complaints prompt residence investigation

By Kelly Brooks

College officials are investigating the possibility mould was found in the Loyalist residences.
Chris Carson, Loyalist residence manager, said that Janet Mathany, the college’s Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator, brought the concern to his attention.
The Loyalist Residences experienced a problem last summer when mould appeared on the carpets and some of the furniture.
“We would bring in a company that would use antifungal chemicals and they would remove the mould that way,” said Carson.
Carson said it is premature to say if there’s another mould problem.
